What is the best fish collagen?

The best fish collagen ... collagen is a bit of a new word for me, but actually I've had a number of experiences! We are slowly coming to realize that we don't eat the way our grandparents did. I'm almost 50 years old, but I can still conjure up the image of a sleepover at my grandparents' farm, where at supper they were tasty devouring a rabbit (nicely prepared) together. Almost with skin and hair. So that also means all kinds of (connective tissue and cartilage) parts that we are no longer used to having on our plates in the Netherlands.
My parents regularly ate "clear broth" with a marrowbone, which was spread on toast like a prized delicacy. And then there was the can of pink salmon or sardines, which had quite a lot of little (cooked soft) bones in them that were simply mashed through the salmon salad. Perhaps recognizable?
Yes, those were times. But so now I know why my grandmother (9 children!) had such pretty cheeks and a sprightly gait and my mother such a radiant smile until a very old age.
Because what were they eating without knowing it? Collagen protein. Collagen protein is found mainly in our skin, hair, nails, connective tissue, blood vessels, tendons, joints, cartilage and bones.
Where should we get our collagen from today?
Most of the building blocks (amino acids) of collagen are essential or semi-essential. This means that we cannot make them entirely ourselves, but must get them through our diet. In recent years, companies have responded by making gelatin from cow bones and skins. Now bovine collagen is also extracted from this and sold as "grass-fed" collagen.
But what is bovine collagen? In terms of how it works, there is little difference between bovine collagen powder or collagen made from fish. Both consist of collagen peptides. Fish collagen, compared to bovine collagen, has a slightly different composition of amino acids. The structure of fish collagen is similar to that of human skin.
In our collagen review into what is the best collagen, our experience is that there is a2nd reason, why we don't think bovine collagen is the best collagen. And that has to do with our experience in the organic industry. As you already know, it doesn't suit Arctic Blue to sell fish oil made from farmed fish from crammed ponds. We only want oil from wild fish with the MSC label. Since we don't know where and how a cow grows up in factory farming, this is a no go for us. The bio-industry (especially in America) is a world we (neatly put) don't want to experience. In addition, "grass fed" is a statement (not a label) that cannot be verified... So it is quite a bit off from what we think is important.
So what do we think is the best fish collagen? Our experiences!
Our fish collagen experiences have been diverse. When we found out that most fish collagen is made from the skin of the tilapia fish, which is primarily farmed in Vietnam, the fish collagen review was done ... Was this really the best fish collagen?
By introducing the world's first fish collagen with an MSC label, we can guarantee that it is 100% made from wild arctic cod from Norway (so no Asian farmed fish like tilapia or panga(sius)). And we can guarantee that this fishing stays away from the food chain of the whale, dolphin and sea lion and that there is no adverse effect on the ocean, environment or fish stocks. In short, we now have an answer to the question of what is the best fish collagen!
