Omega-3 for Dogs

You might not think of it right away, but omega 3 is also a very welcome addition to your dog's daily diet.

We already find it perfectly normal to take omega 3 supplements ourselves, but dogs benefit greatly from them too.

We are happy to tell you more about why omega 3 is good for your dog and which omega 3 is best for your dog.

For dogs too, it is important that the amount of omega 3 and omega 6 in their body is in balance.

However, a dog that mostly eats kibble takes in a lot of omega 6 fatty acids and few omega 3 fatty acids. That is because kibble is often made with cheap vegetable oil.

This imbalance can cause issues for your dog, such as inflammation. Giving your dog more kibble to increase his omega 3 intake is not a solution. The ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 then remains out of balance.

It is only the omega 3 that needs to be supplemented.

But why is omega 3 so good for my dog? Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for your dog too, just like for us. They help against joint problems, osteoarthritis and coat problems.

In dogs, omega 3 contributes to supple joints, a good coat condition and a better immune system (fewer allergies), and it counteracts excessive shedding, dryness, flakes and red, itchy skin.

Omega 3 fatty acids also have proven positive effects on a dog's nerves, brain, life expectancy and intelligence. Sufficient omega 3 is especially important for heavier dogs.

Your dog needs to get omega 3 through his food. However, omega 3 is mainly found in oily fish, and that is not often on the menu for dogs.

The omega 3 fatty acid ALA is found in vegetable oil, which dogs get through their kibble. But it is the omega 3 fish fatty acids EPA and DHA that your dog actually needs. Only about 10% of the ALA taken in is converted into EPA and DHA.

He needs to get the remaining EPA and DHA in another way. At Arctic Blue, our range includes liquid fish oil for dogs and fish oil capsules.

The ideal way to easily add the right omega 3 fatty acids to your dog's food!

Omega 3 for dogs is available in the form of liquid fish oil and fish oil capsules.

Liquid fish oil can easily be added to the food in the right dosage, or given directly into your dog's mouth after eating.

Because the taste is neutral, your dog will enjoy his meal just as much.

Your dog's age and breed do not matter, omega 3 is suitable for all dogs.

Use the following omega 3 dosage for your dog:
Dog weighing 1-5 kg: 1 ml / 1 capsule
Dog weighing 6-10 kg: 2 ml / 2-3 capsules
Dog weighing 11-20 kg: 4 ml / 5-6 capsules
Dog weighing 21-30 kg: 6 ml / 8-9 capsules
Dog weighing 31-40 kg: 8 ml / 11-12 capsules
Dog weighing 41-50 kg: 10 ml / 14-15 capsules

Do not exceed this omega 3 dosage for your dog, unless your vet recommends otherwise. During pregnancy and lactation, consult your vet.

For chronic issues, you can keep giving fish oil permanently or temporarily in a higher dosage if needed. Omega 3 supplements are not a substitute for a varied diet.

A poor omega 3 supplement loses its anti-inflammatory effect when the oil is too old.

And rancid fish oil is downright unhealthy for humans and animals. The first sign of oxidized fish oil is an off fishy taste.

Our liquid fish oil and fish oil capsules have no rancid fishy taste caused by oxidation. Pure Arctic MSC Fish Oil has a high dose of EPA and DHA and is made from fresh Arctic wild fish.

It is liquid fish oil in a bottle with a dosing syringe. Our capsules are also made from the freshest oil. Using fresh oil (for animals too) is one of the principles of Arctic Blue.

Because the fish is processed within 24 hours in cold Northern Norway, the delicate unsaturated omega 3 fatty acids stay in good condition.

That is why we are the only ones to be transparent about (and proud of) the oxidation value of the oil.

It is so good that you can safely take some of your dog's omega 3 oil or capsules yourself!

So you can buy omega 3 for dogs in the form of liquid fish oil or fish oil capsules.
