Your skin is one of the first things people notice about you. And supple, radiant skin not only feels pleasant, but also makes you look fresh and well-groomed. Do you want to give your skin that little bit extra? In this blog we share 5 practical tips to support your skin from the inside and outside.

Why does your skin sometimes get dry?

Your skin has a natural protective layer of oils and moisture. This layer retains moisture and protects against irritating substances from outside. This protective layer can be damaged by:

  • Showering or bathing too hot;
  • Aggressive soap products;
  • Dry air from heating or air conditioning;
  • Drinking too little fluid;
  • A lack of essential nutrients.
  • Weather conditions such as cold and wind.

5 tips for radiant skin

With the right care, your skin stays soft, supple and fresh. These tips help you support your skin's natural balance.

1. Shower smart

Long, hot showers can break down your skin's natural oils. Choose shorter showers (5-10 minutes) with lukewarm water. Use mild, pH-neutral soap without perfume or alcohol and pat your skin dry after showering. Apply a nourishing cream right away for soft and supple skin.

2. Hydrate from the outside

After showering, your skin is still slightly moist. A good cream helps retain this moisture, keeping your skin feeling smooth and comfortable. Choose products with moisture-retaining ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin or ceramides. For extra care on dry spots, rich textures such as shea butter or coconut oil are nice.

3. Hydrate from within

Your skin is your largest organ and, just like the rest of your body, needs enough fluid. So drink enough water throughout the day. A handy rule of thumb is 1.5 to 2 liters per day, but this depends on the weather and how active you are. Moisture-rich foods such as cucumber, watermelon and orange also help keep your skin hydrated.

4. Choose the right nutrients

Your skin, just like the rest of your body, needs good nutrition. Various vitamins and minerals help keep your skin healthy:

  • Vitamin A: contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.* You find it, for example, in sweet potato, carrots and spinach.
  • Vitamin C: contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of the skin.* So eat oranges, kiwis or bell peppers a bit more often for a portion of vitamin C.
  • Zinc: contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.* Zinc is mainly found in oysters, beef and pumpkin seeds.
  • Biotin: contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.* You get biotin through eggs, nuts and whole grain products.

Omega-3 and your skin

Do not forget the omega-3 fatty acids either! Your body cannot produce these essential fats itself, while they are part of the cell membranes in your body. Including those of your skin.

Oily fish such as salmon and mackerel, but also flaxseed and walnuts, are good sources of omega-3. Do you not eat these foods regularly? Then an omega-3 supplement can be a valuable addition.

5. Ensure good humidity

In winter, the heating dries out the air in your home; in summer, the air conditioning often does the same. And that dry air? It quickly draws the moisture out of your skin. A humidifier helps enormously here, especially in the bedroom where you spend a lot of time.

No humidifier? No problem! Simply place a bowl of water on the radiator or hang a damp towel in the room. Houseplants are also natural humidifiers. Another reason to bring some extra greenery into your home.

Finally: give your skin that little bit extra

Beautiful skin requires regularity. With attention, care and smart habits, you help your skin keep looking radiant. Pampering your skin with the right products, sufficient hydration and a pleasant living environment really makes a difference. You will notice: a little extra care for your skin pays off in spades!
