FAQs

The Omega-3 Index measures the percentage of omega-3 fatty acids in red blood cells. This is a measure of the percentage of omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA in all your body cells.

It is an important indicator of the health of the heart, eyes, and brain.

By measuring the Omega-3 Index, you can individually improve your omega-3 levels with the help of dosage advice.

  • No , this is not necessary if a general dosage is sufficient for you. Your dosage depends on your (fatty) fish consumption. You can determine this by answering a few questions in the product selector.
  • Yes , this is necessary if you want to know your precise dosage. You will need to know your Omega-3 index. With this, you can then determine your daily dosage in our tool.

No, this can vary greatly. A person's needs depend on multiple factors:

  1. How much fatty fish do you eat?
  2. Do you have a healthy lifestyle?
  3. How is your eating pattern otherwise?
  4. How much do you weigh?
  5. Are you a man or a woman?

Yes. For example, if you eat 1 herring per week, you may deduct that. 1 herring contains 1500 mg DHA+EPA. When the tool calculates 1000 mg DHA+EPA per day, you may subtract 200 mg (because 1500/7 days = 200), bringing you to 800 mg DHA+EPA per day. You may account for all fatty fish (ZMASH*) in this way. *salmon, mackerel, anchovy, sardine, herring.

It takes 4 months for your body to completely replace all its cell membranes. So it only makes sense to measure your new status after 4 months or a little later. It’s important that you reduce your daily dose after that period (up to 6 months). If you want to know the exact amount, you can enter your new omega-3 index into the calculator again to see your new, lower daily dose.

The inventors of this test are a German (prof.) cardiologist and an American (dr.) scientist. In this scientific article, they explain in detail that a single drop of blood is sufficient to measure your Omega-3 index.

Additionally, they explain in many other articles that an Omega-3 index between 8 and 11 is optimal.
