Omega-3 for Dogs

Why omega 3 for my dog?

For dogs, too, it is important that the amount of omega 3 and omega 6 in their body is in balance.

However, a dog that mostly eats kibble takes in a lot of omega 6 fatty acids and few omega 3 fatty acids. That is because kibble is often made from cheap vegetable oil.

This imbalance can cause complaints in your dog, such as inflammation. Giving your dog more kibble to get more omega 3 is not a solution. The omega 3 to omega 6 ratio then remains out of balance.

It is only the omega 3 that needs to be supplemented.

But why is omega 3 so good for my dog? Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for your dog too, just like for us. They help against joint problems, osteoarthritis and coat problems.

In dogs, omega 3 contributes to supple joints, a good coat condition, a better immune system (fewer allergies) and counteracts excessive shedding, dryness, flakes and red, itchy skin.

Omega 3 fatty acids also have proven positive effects in dogs on the nerves, brain, lifespan and intelligence. Sufficient omega 3 is especially important for heavier dogs.

Which omega 3 for your dog?

Your dog has to get omega 3 through its food. However, you mainly find omega 3 in oily fish, and that is not often on the menu for dogs.

The omega 3 fatty acid ALA is found in vegetable oil, which they get through their kibble. But it is precisely the omega 3 fish fatty acids EPA and DHA that your dog needs. Only about 10% of the ALA taken in is converted into EPA and DHA.

How does omega 3 for dogs work?

Omega 3 for dogs is available in the form of liquid fish oil and fish oil capsules.

You can easily add liquid fish oil to the food in the right dose or give it directly into your dog's mouth after eating.

Because the taste is neutral, your dog will eat its meal with the same pleasure.

Your dog's age and breed do not matter, omega 3 is suitable for all dogs.

How much omega 3 does my dog need?

Use the following omega 3 dosage for your dog: Dog of 1-5 kg: 1 ml / 1 capsule Dog of 6-10 kg: 2 ml / 2-3 capsules Dog of 11-20 kg: 4 ml / 5-6 capsules Dog of 21-30 kg: 6 ml / 8-9 capsules Dog of 31-40 kg: 8 ml / 11-12 capsules Dog of 41-50 kg: 10 ml / 14-15 capsules

Do not exceed this omega 3 dosage for your dog, unless the vet recommends otherwise. During pregnancy and lactation, consult your treating vet.

For chronic complaints, you can keep giving fish oil permanently or, if necessary, temporarily in a higher dose. Omega 3 supplements are not a substitute for a varied diet.

Omega 3 oil for your dog or omega 3 capsules for your dog?

A poor omega 3 supplement loses its anti-inflammatory effect when the oil is too old.
