When I quit my job as a fish oil expert 8 years ago and launched Arctic Blue , I did so because I knew that many users of omega-3 fish oil have questions or are confused.
Knowing that I could solve it.
I would like to discuss the main points here:
- The brands of omega-3 supplements I'm familiar with make me burp with a fishy smell. This makes it hard to take them regularly. Is that normal?
- Which product should I choose?
- What about the sustainability of omega-3 supplements?
Many people are aware of the importance of fatty fish and therefore take an omega-3 supplement. They put up with the common aftertaste or fishy smell that occurs after taking it.
What they don't realize, however, is that this isn't normal. The delicate unsaturated omega-3 fats have been damaged and are therefore oxidizing, resulting in the off-flavor.
In addition, these omega-3 fats are also less effective.
So it's a quality issue.
You can easily prevent this by choosing a high-quality fish oil or algae oil. These can be identified by the blue MSC label or the Vegan label, respectively.
Which product should I choose?
Not everyone is the same, and tastes vary. Taking an omega-3 supplement should be easy—or even enjoyable. This helps prevent people from giving up. Some people simply cannot swallow capsules. For them, we also offer each formulation in liquid form.
We’ve recently started offering a soft gummy as well, because we noticed that some
seniors or young children prefer this option.
Fatty fish is one of the few foods that contain vitamin D.
The fatty omega-3 oil is therefore ideal for adding fat-soluble vitamin D.
This is no luxury when you realize that 60% of the Dutch population has a vitamin D deficiency in the winter.
In addition to the various Omega-3 dosages, we also offer them with or without vitamin D.
What about the sustainability of omega-3 supplements?
We're getting this question more and more often. It makes sense—and it's justified—when you see how companies are cutting corners in this area.
We have strong opinions on this and a lot to say about it, which is why we’d like to discuss it on a separate page:https://www.arctic-blue.com/duurzaam.
Our Principles
1. Pure fish oil
Our fish oil is made (from fillet trimmings) from fresh wild Arctic cod that swim in the Barents Sea, which lies between Novaya Zemlya, Svalbard, and Northern Norway.
One of the cleanest bodies of water in the world, far from the plastic soup in the Pacific Ocean between Asia and South America.
All of our seafood products come from sustainable fisheries and bear the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) label.

2. Fresh algae oil
Our plant-based omega-3 products are made from algae. Algae are tiny plants that can also produce omega-3 fatty acids on their own, even on land, under controlled conditions in enclosed environments.
We're already making various products from the oil extracted from algae. Since algae are the future, there will be more and more of them.
All of our plant-based products carry the VEGAN certification. This guarantees 100% that no fish oil has been used.
